The
Porsche 944 was introduced in 1984 to act as a replacement for
the Porsche 924. In 1985 the 944 Turbo was brought in. This
was a high-performance variant, known internally as the 951
(952 for right-hand drive models). The 944 Turbo had a turbocharged
and intercooled version of the standard car's engine that produced
220 hp @ 6000 rpm.
The Porsche 944 Turbo was the world's first car to use a ceramic
portliner to lower temperatures inside the engine. The 944 Turbo
also featured several other improvements, including superior
aerodynamics, a stronger gearbox, wider wheels, and uprated
suspension.
The Porsche 944 Turbo was manufactured in several forms including
a cabriolet from 1985 to 1991.
