A c-clamp is a versatile tool which can be used for a multitude of uses.

Primarily a c-clamp is used to hold two or more parts together temporarily while an adhesive binds them permanently.

C-clamps can also be used to temporarily compress small spring or hydraulic activated components during maintenance.

Sometimes c-clamps are used to hold a component in place while a retaining bracket is repaired or replaced.
