An electronic cam belt tension tool is a tool used to measure the frequency with which the cam belt vibrates in order to determine the belt's tension. The tighter the belt the higher the frequency reading.

Most vehicle manufacturers now either using this method or are switching to it. To use an electronic cam belt tension tool simply place the sensor near the belt, then ‘pluck’ the belt between your finger and thumb and read off the tension on the LCD display. Works on any make of timing belt. The tension of the timing belt can then be compared to the manufacturers suggested tension level.
