HSS (High-Speed Steel) drill bits are specially designed for drilling through metal. HSS drill bits are often black in color, although more expensive and durable examples may contain cobalt or be titanium coated.

Although HSS bits can be used to drill through other materials like wood and plastic, this will dull the blade faster than if they were reserved solely for metal drilling.
