A nut splitter is a tool that can be used, as a last resort when other methods (such as penetrating oil or heat) have failed, to remove a corroded or damaged nut, without damaging the thread on the associated bolt or stud. The hardened steel cutting tip of the nut splitter is driven into the side of the nut so that it falls off.
