The LP640 took the Murcielago's performance and styling up a
notch, matching the 2006 offerings from Pagani, the Zonda F
Roadster, and Koenigsegg's new supercar, the CCX.
The name 'LP640' refers to the engine position in the Murcielago
- longitudinale posteriore. For those who don't speak Italian
- 'longitudinal and in the back'. '640' refers to the new Murcielago's
horsepower figure.
Lamborghini's designers and engineers have tuned and reworked
not only the engine, suspension, transmission, exhaust, brakes
and electronics, they have also revised both the exterior and
interior.
The more aggressive bodywork, including new front and rear bumpers,
new sideskirts - the left side featuring a huge opening for
cooling the oil radiator, and new taillights, has a tuner-esque
appearance which actually suits the Murcielago's overall shape.
Inside the Murcielago LP640, the seats have been replaced with
more spacious units equipped with redesigned head restraints.
A new instrument panel has also been developed for the Murcielago
LP640, this features a new graphic design, and is flanked by
a 6.5" Kenwood widescreen monitor, DVD, MP3 and WMA player.
Like the standard Murcielago, the Murcielago LP640 can be customised
to order, including carbon fibre finish and an asymmetric interior
design taken from the Murcielago Roadster.
